Gleeson, 18, a Leaving Cert student and the son of RTÉ broadcaster Brian Gleeson, rode A Dream To Share to an emotional victory in the Weatherby Champion Bumper at odds of 7-2 on his maiden festival ride.
The horse was bred by John’s mother, Claire, and Father, racing announcer Brian, who later sold him to McManus following his victory at the Dublin Racing Festival in February.
John believes his pals at St. Augustine’s College in Dungarvan would have enjoyed watching him win. John rides A Dream To Share out every morning before school.
He stated that all the boys and students at the school were watching, so they would all enjoy that.
I got the week off, which is lovely because the school is understanding, and everyone is now watching.
“We always say everything in life is worth sharing, and the horse in question is called Claire. On Christmas Day, Claire announced that she was calling the horse “A Dream To Share.”
