The Carlton midfielder was born on April 6, 1997, to parents Frank and Vicki Kennedy. He is their youngest son, and they likely pampered him from the get-go.

Frank and Vicki raised their children in a Catholic household, and Matt has always been proud of his faith. He has repeatedly shared how his faith is essential and a significant part of his identity.

Not just that, the sportsperson is the nephew of Bishop Michael Kennedy. His family owns a farm, and he spent his childhood in Collingullie, just outside Wagga Wagga.

Having grown up in a small town, the footy often felt far from reaching the top level. After missing out on the under-15s team, he was even more frustrated and discouraged.

During that time, Matthew Kennedy’s father encouraged and cheered him. The latter motivated his son to become good enough so that the clubs would seek him out. Frank said,

Kennedy Sr. felt his son should stay home, playing local football with his older siblings. His advice came true, considering Matt later became the player every club wanted.

On the other hand, Matthew Kennedy’s mother, Vicki, has maintained a low profile. Nonetheless, she must support him wholeheartedly.

As already stated, the football player grew up in a large household with four siblings. Matthew Kennedy’s siblings are James Kennedy, Daniel Kennedy, Nick Kennedy, and Jo Kennedy. All of them are older than Matt.

Matthew Kennedy’s brothers all played for Collinguille’s senior team. Thanks to them, he started training with the team at eleven. The Kennedy siblings competed at fields and at home.

However, whether James, Daniel, and Nick are involved in sports is unknown. On the other hand, Matt went to compete professionally for Greater Western Sydney Giants and eventually Carlton. He has extended his contract with the club until the end of the 2025 season.

Unfortunately, due to the Lisfranc injury, the sportsman had to miss most of the 2022 AFL season. Still, his hunger and passion for the sport is ever growing, and we can’t wait to see how much Matthew Kennedy will shine in the future.
