Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Dad, Vaughn Alexander, coached him in his early years. Today, he has made it to the NBA and continues to impress with his fantastic playing skills.
Coming from a sports background can only help aspiring athletes much. They have to work hard and hustle, and they cannot only rely on their family background to move forward.
Nevertheless, it’s a boon to have a supportive household. We have also seen the emergence of many talented sports personalities who have followed in their senior’s footsteps and continued their family legacy.
Shai falls under the said category as his mom is a former track star. Not just that, his father was also into sports and coached him.
Thanks to his supportive parents, the Oklahoma City Thunder point guard’s journey from a small-town player to an NBA star has been smooth. He is now one of the crucial athletes for the team.

The NBA star was born on July 12, 1998, in Ontario, Canada, to his loving parents, Vaughn Alexander and Charmaine Gilgeous. The latter is a renowned sportsperson who competed in the Olympics.

While his mother is a familiar name, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s dad, Vaughn, has remained away from the limelight. But it’s known that he used to coach Shai and his cousin, Nickeil Alexander-Walker.
Shai and Nickeil grew up together and are closer than real siblings. Both were teammates at Hamilton Heights Christian Academy and stayed at coach Zach Ferrell’s home.
Called ‘Irish Twins’ by Zach, the cousins spend their youths together. Talking about their bond, Nickeil says,
But every weekend I was either at his house or he was at my house.
