Wood scored 2/71 goals, barely enough to earn him a spot in the World Cup squad despite the field’s propensity for high scoring.

The Three Lions won the competition in their own country, becoming the first English side ever to win the World Cup.

Wood was a part of that team. After the World Cup victory, Wood was expected to play a significant role in the team for the Ashes. However, a side strain he suffered during the World Cup final prevented him from participating in the remainder of the season and the Ashes.
